Maroon 5 are on course to claim their first ever UK number one single, while Justin Bieber is ahead of Cheryl Cole on the album chart.

The band's latest track 'Payphone' currently leads the midweek singles chart, pushing Cole's 'Call My Name' down to two.

Flo Rida slips to three with 'Whistle', Stooshe land at four with 'Black Heart' and Coldplay and Rihanna are at five with 'Princess Of China'.

Paloma Faith's 'Picking Up The Pieces' moves up to number 11, Rihanna's 'Where Have You Been' is at 15 and Emeli Sand is at 16 with 'My Kind Of Love'.

Katy Perry climbs 11 places to 20 with new single 'Wide Awake', while Paul Weller enters at 30 with 'Birthday'. The singer recorded the Beatle! s classi c in celebration of Paul McCartney's 70th birthday earlier this week.

The star's second studio set Believe is currently 3,000 copies ahead of Cheryl Cole's A Million Lights, which is at number two.

Paloma Faith advances a few places to number three with Fall To Grace, Amy McDonald is at four with Light and Emeli Sand's Our Version Of Events is at five.

Carrie Underwood's UK debut album Blown Away lands at 10, Reverend And The Makers are at 13 with @Reverend_Makers and Smashing Pumpkins are at 14 with Oceania.
