As Girls Aloud prepare to release a Christmas single, Cheryl Cole has shelved her own plans for new material.

The singer has indefinitely postponed the release of her next track, Screw You, to focus on the band.

Nothing whatsoever to do with the fact her last single failed to scrape into the Top 10, then.

Cheryl, 29, announced in September that the song was due to be the next push from her A Million Lights album but now her solo career will take a back seat to the girls 10th anniversary reunion.

A source tells me: Cheryl originally planned for her solo material to coincide with the Girls Aloud promo schedule.

That way, it was thought theywould cross-advertise each other.

"Unfortunately, it just felt a bit confusing to have both going on at once.

After the girls single lost out to Olly Murs in the race for No.1 and Cheryls single failed to reach the top 10, it was decided to focus all the attention on Girls Aloud for the time being.

"They might reschedule it for some time in March, after the girls tour, bu! t there is no date set at the moment.

Back in September, Cheryl confirmed during a Facebook chat that Screw You, a collaboration with Wretch 32, was to be her next single and even made a lyric video from footage sent in by fans... with the swear words asterisked out, of course.

But later that month, Under The Sun, her second single from the album, peaked at No.13 and Girls Alouds charity single, Something New their comeback after a three-year hiatus could not fight off competition from Olly Murs to reach the top spot in November.

The follow-up from Cheryl and bandmates Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh, Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle is sultry ballad Beautiful Cause You Love Me, where they all look fresh-faced and pretty in the video.

And Im told Cheryls bandmate, Nicola, 27, was responsible.

My source continues: Nicola has been very hands-on with the girls styling.

"She even took part in a fashion TV show with Henry Holland and Rihanna this year, so she knows her stuff.

Ill be the judge of that... and, thus far, shes doing a pretty good job.

The girls, who play the Jingle Bell Ball at Londons O2 Arena this weekend, embark on a 20-date tour in February.
