Cheryl Cole and Carly Rae Jepsen have now joined Gotye as the only artists in the UK to reach the one million sales mark in the UK this year.

Girls Aloud member Cheryl's 'Fight For This Love' has now sold more than a million copies since its release in 2009 while Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen's infectious track 'Call Me Maybe' has also hit the milestone.

The girls are joined by Gotye whose track with Kimbra, Somebody That I Used To Know was the first track to reach the million sales mark in the UK in 2012.

In the 60-year history of the Official Singles Chart, there have only been 125 artists to hit sell more than a million copies of their singles, with the rise of digital downloads encouraging a huge jump in sales figures.

The Official Charts Company's Managing Director Martin Talbot congratulated Cheryl and Carly on their success.

"Many congratulations are due to Carly Rae Jepsen and Cheryl Cole, who have joined Gotye to make it three million sellers this year. The fact that there has still only been 125 million sellers over the last 60 years indicates just quite how impressive a landmark it is to reach," he said.

Other artists who are well past the million mark include Rihanna, Adele , Jessie J and Calvin Harris.
