Cheryl Cole is to ditch her ex-husband Ashley Cole's surname as she promotes her 3rd solo album.
Cheryl, 28, who filmed the video for new single Call My Name last week, will now be known simply by her first name.
'Cheryl is beginning a new chapter in her life so she doesn'twant to be associated with negative stuff from the past,' a source tellsThe Sun.
'She's not removing Cole legally, it's just a career statement. She's in a really good place at the moment and wants to take life by the balls.
'She can't wait to start performing live again and her new stage name has given her comeback an extra bit of spice.'
Cheryl divorced Ashley, 31, in 2010 over claims that he'd cheated on her.
With the imminent release of her new record and a rumoured reunion with Girls Aloud early next year, now is the perfect time for the Geordie star to revamp her image.
'I am back in the zone promoting,' Cheryl tells Metro, 'and so far I am best known as simply Cheryl.'
