Simon Cowell is allegedly hoping Cheryl Cole will return to The X Factor, with reports suggesting he wants the Geordie to come back in a bid to 'revamp' the UK series.

According to The Mirror, the Girls Aloud star has become the number one target to replace Kelly Rowland - who has been linked to the US XF panel following Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul's exits last week.

A source close to the music mogul told the newspaper: "Cheryl is part of The X Factor family. Formal discussions have yet to take place but if she wants to come back she would be welcomed with open arms.

Simon, who sacked Chezza from The X Factor USA last year, recently hinted that he wanted the Fight For This Love hitmaker back on the show.

When asked by The Sun if he could see a return for Cole, SiCo said: "She could be a panellist again if she wanted to 100 per cent. I don't know if she would. I think she probably misses me."

ITV bosses are also apparently keen for Cheryl to come back, with a! n inside r telling The Mirror: "Wed welcome her with open arms. She was hugely popular and shes totally gorgeous. Wed love to have her back.

Chezza's manager Will.I.Am previously responded to Simon's comments about the 28-year old's XF return, stating that she doesn't need the talent show and instead insisting that "Cheryl needs her own show."

Cole herself is also said to have reacted to Cowell's remarks, with a source telling TellyMix.co.uk: "When Cheryl heard what Simon said, she laughed out loud and said there is no way she is ready to go back and work for him,

Shes only just got over the humiliation of last year and has her eye on all sorts of other big projects. She jokes he can get lost.

In other related news, Cheryl will reportedly turn her back on SiCo for good by performing her new single on rival talent series The Voice, with Will.I.Am confirming: "I want her on The Voice. I mean why not? That would really p*** the big man off wouldnt it."
