Cheryl Cole pays her respects this Remembrance Day

The singer posted: "The brave die never, though they sleep in dust: their courage nerves a thousand living men. 11/11/11 .. #alwaysremembered"

The heartfelt quote comes from a poem by Minot J Savage, a US preacher who fought in the American Civil War.

Fight For This Love singer Cheryl became a squaddies' sweetheart earlier this year when she headed to Afghanistan to boost Our Boys' morale.

The Girls Aloud beauty strolled around camp chatting with the soldiers, posed for snaps with lucky troops, and even took part in a demonstration.

Other celebrities also paid tribute today, with Rochelle Wiseman of The Saturdays tweeting: "11.11.11 #Remembrance A very special day, thinking of everyone, love to you all X".

Chat show host Jonathan Ross said: "It is Armistice Day. It's so important that we remember the sacrifice and courage of those who fought for our way of life. Never forget."

Soccer bad boy Joey Barton showed his sensitive side, writing: "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. #remembranceaday gone but never forgotten....."
