Cheryl Cole: 'Even the paparazzi dress smart for Cannes' - video
The singer told Elle that even the press dress up at the event, which is unusual.
Cole said: "The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is the most glamorous red carpet that you'll ever see.
"It's stunning, literally. You have stairs of red carpet. Even the paparazzi are dressed smart and that's saying something."
She added of her shoe selections: "It's not even about reinventing anything for me, it's more about having fun and feeling different with what I'm wearing and what the occasion is.
"For a new video you just wanna feel fresh, you don't want the same pair that you had two months ago. It just comes with the territory, that's why you say it so often."
Cole added: "I do crazy things a lot for the love of fashion - like have sore feet for days on end. You do anything, you suffer for your art."
Of her sponsor L'Oreal, who in 2012 mark 15 years as the official make-up sponsor of the Cannes Film Festival, she said: "I'm spoiled rotten by L'Oreal. Spoiled rotten.
"So I have everything to do with them. Nail polish, lipstick. I'm literally dripping in L'Oreal."
