Cheryl Cole asks Tom Daley to teach her the swan dive... and naturally he's happy to oblige

He's one of the most well-known faces on Team GB, and was watched by millions as he performed in the Olympic men's synchronised diving on Monday.

And it appeared that Tom Daley gained a rather special famous fan as a result of his efforts, which saw him finish fourth alongside diving partner Pete Waterfield.

The 18-year-old received a tweet from Cheryl Cole saying: 'I think you are amazing! Will you teach me how to swan dive?'

Tom retweeted her, replying: 'Of course!!! But first you need to follow me ;)'

No doubt the exchange will prompt envy from fans of both parties.

Cheryl didn't reply to Tom's tweet, but of course if she followed him back, the pair could have moved on to private messaging.

The pop star's encourageme! nt must be just what Tom needed after a rather turbulent start to the week.

Daley and his partner Pete Waterfield, 31, finished fourth yesterday in the mens synchronised 10m platform diving event at London 2012.

Shortly afterwards, Daley retweeted a message from user Rileyy69 which said: 'You let your dad down i hope you know that.'

Tom responded by tweeting: 'After giving it my all... you get idiots sending me this...'

Daleys father Rob died last year from brain cancer.

The 17-year-old youth who sent the malicious tweet has been arrested and issued with a harassment warning.

The teenager is still being investigated by police, however, over other communications sent from his Twitter account.

Dorset Police said the youth had been arrested in the early hours this morning after 18-year-old Olympic star Daley received messages on the social networking site.

He was detained at a guestho! use in W eymouth hours after abusive messages were sent to Daley, following the diver's failure to win a medal in the 10m synchronised diving event.

It is understood Daley will be advised to keep off Twitter two days before he competes in the individual version of his event on August 10.
