The X Factor's creative director Brian Friedman has called for Cheryl Cole to return to the judging panel.

The former Girls Aloud star has been constantly linked to a seat behind TV's most famous desk ever since she left for an ill-fated stint on the US version in 2011.

She has always denied the rumours, but Brian still thinks her "energy" makes her a worthy panelist on the long-running talent show, which returns for its milestone tenth series later this year.

"Id love to see Cheryl on the panel. She has energy," the Daily Star quotes Friedman as saying. "Theres going to be a reshuffle this year."

He also told Digital Spy that he expects Sharon Osbourne to return to the show, after initially walking out in 2007.

"It's funny, I was watching TV here in America and I'm used to having her on America's Got Talent," he said. "It leads me to believe that she's got to be back in the UK.

"I could definitely see it happening and who better to come back? She knows the show so well, she helped launch it, she was part of the original. So if there's a back to basics [approach], she's definitely the person to bring back."

Brian, who w! as responsible for a lot of the big production-heavy performances on both the UK and US editions of the show last year, is currently promoting The Pulse, a touring dance masterclass.
