Cheryl Cole has reacted enthusastically to the news that MPs have voted in favour of marriage for same sex couples - by asking BFF Kimberley Walsh to marry her!

The 'Call My Name' singer jokingly proposed to her Girls Aloud bandmate over Twitter yesterday when news broke that 400 MPs had voted 'Aye' to the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) bill in the House of Commons yesterday (February 5), far more than the 175 who voted against it.

Chezza wrote: "@kimberleyjwalsh !!! Marry me???"

Fans exploded with excitement, with 1,431 of her followers Retweeting the post and 1,213 hitting Favourite.

Liz Hurley also praised the result, saying: "Thank you to the clear majority of MPs who voted in support of Gay Marriage."
