The singer was due to perform a duet with X Factor judge Gary Barlow for Children In Need Rocks Manchester on Thursday, but has been ordered her to pull out by doctors, after being struck down with 'pharyngitis' - a nasty sore throat.
As late as last night Barlow was unsure whether the Fight For This Love singer would be able to make the charity gig, revealing: 'Were still waiting to hear but, if it doesnt happen, I dont know what were going to do.'
It's thought Cole and Barlow bonded while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief in 2009, and it has been reported that the Take That singer has been desperate for friend Cheryl to return to the X! Factor< /span> judging panel.
Sources say Gary is urging Cheryl to make a surprise return to the show, hoping that it will boost diminishing ratings and promising Cole it'll make her the Nation's sweetheart once more.
The busy head judge has also been putting together a supergroup called The Collective, comprised of Chipmunk, Ed Sheeran, Miss Dynamite, Rizzle Kicks, Tulisa Contostavlos and Labrinth for this year's BBC Children In Need single, Teardrop, due to be performed on this week's X Factor show.
