Cheryl Cole tells Twitter of relief after escaping Sandy aftermath in New York

The Geordie lass was in the US when the storm hit the Big Apple and took to Twitter to tell her fans of her happiness of getting away from the city.

'So glad to be out of NYC ! Hurricane Sandy was one of the strangest experiences of my life,' she tweeted, before noting that 'we take so much for granted'.

She then added: 'My heart and prayers go out to everyone badly affected by the storm.. So Devastating.'

Her bandmate Nadine Coyle, with whom she will be reuniting for the ten-year anniversary Girls Aloud tour, tweeted details of how people can support the victims of Sandy.

She posted: 'Watching hurricane sandy coming together! People are hurting. We can help a little at least. Text Redcross to 90999', which Cheryl was quick to retweet.

The Call My Name singer also took to Twitter recently to express her shock that Girls Aloud fans have helped the band sell out the O2 Arena in London.

'I cannot believe even after 10 years of this your loyalty and support has not wavered 2 02's sold and another one added,' she posted, before saying the fans were 'amazing'.
