Olly Murs asks Cheryl Cole out... via Twitter

She was one of the people who gave him his big shot on The X Factor in 2009, and the pair have remained close since then.

But Olly Murs yesterday attempted to take his friendship with Cheryl Cole to the next level when he asked her out via his Twitter page.

The cheeky singer tweeted Cheryl, 28, asking for her number after the pair indulged in a short conversation on the microblogging site.

To the point: Olly asked Cheryl via his Twitter page yesterday evening

Olly, 27, tweeted her: 'Haha sod it @CherylCole I'll ask for your number then #cantblameaguyfortrying #worthashot lol haha x'

However, Cheryl has yet to respond to the singer's request.

Earlier in the week, Olly's fans had been encouraging him to contact Cheryl via Twitter, which he jokingly did.

And Cheryl had responded to Olly at the time: 'Sod it ill tweet you back lol... Hope your good babe xx'

Olly has never made a secret of the fact that he finds Cheryl attractive, saying during his time on The X Factor that he wanted to 'snog' the Girls Aloud star under the mistletoe.

Olly added in an interview in 2010: 'Im not going to lie, she is unbelievable. She smells good, she looks good.

'If I go back on The X Factor this year, Im going to go straight to her dressing room!'
